Built in 1889, this romantic small house is hidden from the street, with a private entrance through a horse walk (a passage at the side of the house) and an attractive brick facade. The interior has an open plan design on the first floor, with a light-filled kitchen and a soaring ceiling with exposed beams in the spacious living room and dining area. A mahogany staircase leads to two bedrooms, bath, and walk-in closet upstairs. The photographer Diane Arbus lived here during the 1960s.

131 Charles Street was designated as an individual New York City landmark in 1966 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
