The Brevoort has a rich past and deep ties to Greenwich Village and New York City history. The modern day residences were built by architects Corbet and MacMurray and completed in 1956. Building was named The Brevoort in honor of The Hotel Brevoort, which formerly occupied the same location.

The Hotel Brevoort was built in 1845 by Mr. Brevoort, descended from Dutch settlers. He retained their farm, stretching from 5th Avenue to the Bowery and extending north of 14th Street where he built his mansion at 24 Fifth Ave and The Hotel Brevoort right across the street. In 1902 the hotel was purchased by famous restauranteur, Raymond Orteig, and was transformed into one of the most upscale hotels in the United States. It’s guests included state-side and international elite, movie stars, congressmen, senators, royalty, heads of state, U.S. Presidents, and historical figures like Charles Lindberg and Mark Twain.
