The Getty, architect Peter Marino’s stunning new 12-story residential building in Manhattan’s West Chelsea neighborhood, has all the hallmarks of a masterwork. The architecturally daring project was designed with 60 different finishes of stone, marble and wood from four different continents. Presenting a collection of six distinct residences features include clear-cut glass panels up to 130 SF, double-height ceilings in the living room, dedicated reinforced art walls, and hydronic floor heating throughout. From the moment of its genesis, the architect thought of the project as a work of art, an approach mandated by the site itself. Located directly next to the High Line at the heart of the city’s contemporary gallery district and a stone’s throw from the Whitney Museum of American Art’s dazzling new home, the metal and glass building replaces a Getty gas station.
