Discussion about
This has nothing to do with RE. Turn away now if you need to talk RE. WTF?!!! Did anyone see tonight's episode? THAT was unhinged. It was EMMY stuff. I mean, this is what the medium was made for. Wow. I don't know if I can ever watch that mess of an episode again because a little bit of me got so dumb it died during that hour, but man, I was riveted!

What TV was made for is right. As Sarah Jessica Parker said afterwards, you couldn't write it and the best actor couldn't play it.

OMG I am obsessed with this show. I think Kelly acts like someone who is a cokehead and has been up for 2 days straight snorting - seriously seriously paranoid, jabbering and out of touch with reality. I would not be surprised if the reason she is so out of touch all the time is because she's just in her own coked out world.

Little gossip on Kelly: my friend's friend works in a tanning salon in SOHO where Kelly (at least used to) regularly go to, and apparently she'd constantly try to sneak into the more expensive tanning booths. Like she would do it every time.

kyle: Somehow your comments about Kelly's personality disorder in this thread http://streeteasy.com/nyc/talk/discussion/12799-jill-zarins-apartment-hits-the-market stuck with me, probably because I didn't understand Kelly's behavior prior to that. And just when I had started to think that she was improving (you have to admit, she's been more normal this season up to now), she went into massive meltdown mode. Last night's episode was like a bad accident...I couldn't take my eyes off it!

I understand the speculation about drug use, but her behavior seems more a progression from an already serious personality disorder. The encounter between Kelly and Bethany in the bar last year followed by that bizarre "date" with the playboy was a glimpse of how disturbed Kelly really is, but the actual psychosis wasn't really there. The type of decompensation we saw last night isn't what I would associate with abuse of crystal meth, cocaine, or prescription drugs alone. There wasn't any mania to speak of as one might see in a bi-polar episode. It was more schizo-typal with paranoid aspects. Whatever her condition, it may be getting made worse by some type of attempt at self-medication with licit or illicit drugs, but there is definitely something seriously and organically wrong going on.

If I were one of those women on the trip, I'd have told a producer that either they station a crew member outside my bedroom all night or I would leave. This was a seriously deranged person deteriorating by the hour. This type of mental illness is not something to treat lightly. If I saw someone I knew acting that way I'd have called 911.

Meanwhile, I think I have to throw a finale party.

Who read the blogs on Bravo? So much happens that isn't aired. Bethany was so freaked out she called Jill apparently and was likely part of the reason Jill showed up. Some of them said what happened actually went on for hours and hours and much was a great deal worse than what aired--apparently some of it was so awful that producers felt it was too extreme and would turn off even us regular, tasteless viewers.

Kyle - I read the blogs too. And totally agree with your personality disorder assessment. I would love to see that unaired, unedited footage. I just don't get how she survives?? Like how she keeps it together enough to e.g., pay the bills, get the kids to school, etc. Apparently Gilles lives in the apt either below/over her, so perhaps he oversees.

I'm a crazy fan too - ybm yack fest is great. Read the amazongate thread http://www.amazon.com/review/RA5UPKPM4DJAK/ref=cm_cd_pg_pg118?ie=UTF8&cdPage=118&asin=0525951792&store=books#wasThisHelpful

Another blog said she exhibited paranoid personality disorder. I don't think it's coke - she was eating steak and I know I can't eat a bite on coke - not that I do it anymore.

It was riveting tv and the bravo blogs said that the parts they showed were tame and it was much much worse. Maybe they'll show more in the lost footage episode. I kind of feel bad for her because she has those 2 kids. Hope they don't see it.

Does make for great tv though. The internet is buzzing. Go to her facebook page and Jill's if you want to read more craziness. I can't wait for the reunion show

Wow, it was off the hook!!!

She's always storming off, only to return with even crazier outbursts.

Yes,NWT: The gummy-bears scene was too much -- the producers should have put her in a strait-jacket.

Next week, Jill shows up for an unannounced surprise visit : "I thought you'd be happy to see me!"

Ramona will go off on her -- rightly so.

Maybe Kelly will beat Bobby up. She's got hand-to-hand combat experience from beating up her boyfriend in the Hamptons last summer.

I'm still wondering why Bravo shoots a co-op on Park (or rather an intersection) for the exterior of Ramona and Mario's place, while their actual condo is 201 E 80th. Who's ashamed of whom? Or is it just artistic license?

glamma, i saw it on fios ondemand. i stopped watching this show after season 1, but now may have to watch the whole thing. i think kelly is just high, a combination of pills and who knows what, since they flew private. she keeps excusing herself, i wonder if what all the other castmembers are implying when they say that she show was heavily edited to protect her, is that her drug use was very obvious. and she does have young children, so..

cccharley, i don't think she actually does eat the steak, she picks on her salad, remember they make a big deal about her not eating the crabcake, and then sends her steak away. the problem with nacrotics is that so many stupid people forget to stop doing them when it's no longer a bit of fun, but just pathetic

I think they barely scratched the surface there. part II was a bit of a letdown. Part I got Jill, part II it just got sad, even Bethenny was like "lay off her".

The Kelly stuff, they barely scratched the surface. Hopefully they hold her feet to the fire in episode 3.

But talk about dillusional... bullying/attacking.... who was it that yelled "hobag", "you're not a chef", bla bla. Kelly BJ Bensimon is definitely the most delusional person I've ever seen outside of a movie.

Glamma - 90% of Part One was Jill-bashing. She kept apologizing to Bethenny, wanting to be friends, crying. There was also some amazing stuff by Kelly; she is delusional literally, truly think someone needs to intervene and get her psych help for real. I hear on Watch What Happens Ramona said that from St. John not only did she call Jill re: Kelly, but she also called a psychiatrist. I've read various diagnoses; I think some blog had some psychiatric nurse who said in her op, Kelly seemed bipolar.

Yeah, at the end of I you almost feel sorry for Jill. She gets nailed by everyone, and she even recognizes her utter hypocrisy (asking Bethenny to do now what Jill refused to do for months).

But Bethenny zinged her in II.... saying that she only wanted to make up when she found out Bethenny was engaged and pregnant (which Jill agreed to). Which makes it even worse for Jill... sort of proves the point. She was ok being the bad guy until only as long as she didn't look that bad doing it.

And, yeah, Kelly is just insane. Literally describing scenarios the exact opposite of what really happened. And that can't be just bipolar. This is just insane. Lack of knowing night vs. day.

She also made claims that she was forced to go on the trip, which was a lie.

She's just insane.

I actually liked part II.

Jill has mea culpa'd out of necessity, genuine regret, both...whatever the reason she offered dozens of times "I'm sorry. I was wrong." She cannot prostrate herself anymore. She has thrown up the white flag of defeat. The cause? Her own hubris, false pride, vanity? The ugly jealousy over Bravo giving Bethany a show but not Jill (who was surely angling for one with her mother and her sister)? The vicious, sucking, consuming tides and undertows of the press? Whatever the causes of her annus horribilis, she has admitted defeat. And in the truly American tradition of giving those who say "I'm sorry" a second chance, it is time to lay off Jill. Can she and Bethany be friends again? No. Bethany doesn't want to be friends. She doesn't even want to hug. She'll forgive Jill and wish her well, but a friend does not get to behave the way Jill did and still get to be your friend. Sorry. But let's move on. What's done is done.

Bethany? Everything's coming up roses. Hope the media beast doesn't devour her. Her success is based on a skillful handling of media that she has learned and honed for years. But it is a tricky beast: like Sigfried and Roy's lions (or were they tigers?)--in a flash they can turn and its all over.

Alex: fully rehabilitated her image after an embarassing, awful first season. Having behaved relatively normally and come out of this season in one piece, she will leave the show--by choice or by force. But she leaves with head high and can at least leave the house again without being the oddity she and Simon were after season one. Good idea to keep Simon off camera much of this season. Major weirdo--but a gentle one.

Ramona? Her stock rose this year. She's funnier, saner but still zany, and actually offers insightful comments on occassion. I like her more than ever. Not a lot to do with her on reunion--she wasn't really controvertial this year.

Kelly. Ah, Kelly. I wanted (pruriently) to see more of her on these reunions. I just like listening to her madness. Like Max VonSidow's character in "Through A Glass Darkly" being fascinated by his daughter's deterioration, there is something perverse and yet captivating about watching Kelly fall apart. Last year I diagnosed her narscissistic personality disorder. But others are correct: there is something more serious going on. "Bipolar" isn't really what I see. It is more schizo-typal with paranoid aspects and involves true psychotic breaks from reality. She is quite ill but apparently still able to function day to day. I don't think she'll continue to be able to, though. These kinds of things tend not to spontaneiously improve or self-resolve. Intervention is needed but it doesn't look like she wants any help. That's a bad situation for someone this ill.

The Countess? Train wreck. Duplicitous. Phoney. Bad season for her. I hope that session 3 of the reunion focuses more on her. Of them all, I find her most ghastly. And I'm embarassed for not having seen through her 2 years ago.
Sonia: fun addition. Bright. Survivor.

Agreed that Alex comes up roses. But I think she deserves it, she was actually one of the more sane folks. She was there for folks who needed it, she toned down her "I need to be hip" think (which used to really bother me) and she was just open an honest. Good for her.

Countess, also agreed. TOTALLY I think she rode the Jill train too much, sided with the wrong one... and I think its starting to come out that she was much of the problem. She tries to play nice, but she's the biggest behind the back talker there is... and a hypocrite.

She REALLY goaded Jill into some of her stuff, always whispering on her ear, always on the wrong side. I'm wondering when Jill will figure that out and complain.

I didn't see through it either until now.

What exactly makes her the authority on ANYTHING, btw. If you marry the right person, you suddenly have manners? Sounds like she's living the opposite of "money can't buy you class". What bought her the class exactly?

And, yes, Sonia, I thought she was a putz immediately, but I think she's turned into a nice person who just wants to have fun.

bubbles makes a good point. I don't know how Bravo can get her off if she has a multi-year contract, but if not, it isn't right to put someone that sick on TV for pure entertainment purposes (as opposed to those ostensible "help" shows with sick people, like "Hoarders"). I think I heard that Kelly's ex lives in the same building or something and has a very active role in the children's lives (joint custody?). Certainly he sees what is happening and the children are getting old enough to see something isn't right. The need to stage in intervention, but with Kelly's particular type of mental illnesses, I really question if she would get help. I think the better approach for her would be to in a sense play to her mental illnesses to convince her to seek help. That is, take the tack of, "You are a beautiful person who just wants kindness but your ability to see people for who they really are is just exposing you to too much cruelty. No one with the ability to see the way you do can get by without some time away once in a while and some help. Your kindness leaves you too vulnerable--please get help to learn ways to defend yourself and avoid the pain you feel from the barbs of the people around you." In other words, play to her distorted sense of exceptionalism. It is actually the only way to "treat" a narcissist. Like teaching someone who has lost a hand how to dress themselves--you don't try to make their hand grow back because that is impossible--instead you work with the disability to find a way of functioning at an acceptable level.

There is a subset of manic-depressive disorder that involves psychosis. Bi-polar generally doesn't manifest itself thusly, but there are plenty of bi- polar patients delivered in restraints to mental hospitals. She is very ill and needs help desperately. Her paranoia is incredible. I actually felt ill watching her.

Yes to all... Her ex does live in the same building, so clearly it is apparent there is an issue. Not sure she is bipolar, but that is just my thought. It's almost as if she has some type of peter pan complex and maybe something biological like diabetes or hypoglycemia (seems as if the jelly beans calmed her down). But it is too sad to watch and should be asked to leave the show as it's not a healthy enviorment for her. She needs work on herself for the sake of her kids.

Bethany is just kinda mean. i get that nyc bitch is her shtick, and maybe that's all it is. it's making her loads of money. i'm sure many women admire her and wish they could be so tough. blah blah blah. i think she carries around too much destructive anger. takes one to know one. i hope for her it's just for show. i don't think it is.

and speaking of just for show, drama occurs on camera. real life happens off, right? i think that's where jill is coming from. these women are all confused. maybe we'll see one on DWTS!

I have heard bipolar so many places but I did note that some psych student over on wordpress has a blog "diagnosing" the housewives from the various cities. Its actually pretty entertaining if you are a RH fan. For Kelly she diagnosed a paranoid personality disorder (traits are highly suspicious of others, can't function in groups b/c of the paranoia everyone is out to get them, deluded/paranoid thinking). Seems to fit: Bethenny is going to kill her, has tried to kill her before, wants to hurt her kids, the four women are bullying her, Bravo forced her to go on the trip.

Poor kids.

Jill only wants to make nice with Bethenny -- because she has become a talented, accomplished business person. Otherwise, Jill wouldn't give her the time of day.
"I'm done!"

I've never seen such a bunch of crybabies.

I like Sonja; she doesn't turn on the waterworks.

P.S. I know who was calling in gossip items about whom. Shame on Jill. Go cry.

I feel sorry for Bobby. He's a good, generous guy.

"i think she carries around too much destructive anger"

Well, yeah... she did have a father who hated her and what sounds like an awful upbringing.
And she took that and used it to motivate herself and she built herself a little empire.
And she's not looking for excuses, she admits it.
I think she deserves props.

"and speaking of just for show, drama occurs on camera. real life happens off, right? i think that's where jill is coming from"

Her husband having cancer AND her daughter's health problems AND her killing her relationship with her best friends aren't "real life"? Then what is?

Can't wait for part 3 tonight. I really dislike Bethenny = Jill too for that matter. Don't forget though Jill did do a great deal for her in the past - that does seem to be all forgotten because she was such a bitch this season. Anyway if you want a Kelly laugh - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVE0lhCut7E She does need to get removed from the show. Will continue after tonight. As for B's new show - way too much B and she's mean to her husband

I finally had time to watch Bethenny's new show last night. I have always admired Bethenny and have been a fan, but I have to say she IS mean to her hubby kind of. Or not mean, just pushy about when she does not get her way.

And so it is. Instead of finishing Winter's Bone so my husband and I can see the movie this weekend, I will join the rest of the heathens and waste two hours of my life (hours that I will never get back, as he likes to remind me) glued to Bravo. I hope it's worth it! I'm quite certain it won't be!!

I don't think anybody forgot that, Bethany says it over and over again. The criticism is that she does it to get something in return.... and then isn't there when Bethany needed it most because Jill didn't get something out of it.

letdown.

They eased of Kelly, and then Jill actually started defending her because she had absolutely nothing left... trying to claim that being around those women is so hard, drives one to bad behavior (yes, Jill, except that YOU WERE THE LEADER WHEN YOU PULLED ALL YOUR CRAP). I think everyone was spent, Jill was nailed, everyone (except Jill) got that Kelly was just crazy, so they just let Kelly talk about how its ok to completely contradict yourself daily. I think Bethany just didn't care any more at this point.

They then had each person talk about themselves more, and folks stopped calling each other on BS because it was "their turn".

Just really wasn't much.

Total letdown. The Jill thing is so kicked but I really wanted Andy to put Kelly in her place and instead he let her off. Of all of them that need not to be asked back its Kelly. Its too frustrating to even watch her; nothing she says or does makes sense, its pointless.

Oh, it was just more of the usual crap. Bethenny looks better each time, Jill gets worse, the "Countess is a Jew-hater; and I just love that Sonja. She's the best!

Ramona wore a beautful Posen dress. At least she dresses for that round-up show with class. Everybody else had their pundy on view. Only Bethenny gets that short dress- look right.

"but I really wanted Andy to put Kelly in her place and instead he let her off."

Exactly. With the all the crap he called others on, he did zero on Kelly. Not even the lie "Bravo made me go". Or her claiming she left voluntarily (when she was kicked out).

Maybe they're worried about a lawsuit?

> "Countess is a Jew-hater;

omg, I know. Definitely some skeletons in her closet. I've never heard someone be anti-semitic is so nice a manner.

Actually, it wasn't even in a nice manner. "The Countess" likes dick. Even a Jew will do.

Did any of you watch the previously unaired footage show, last night?

Ramona at the doctor with Sonja. I almost fainted.

Jill at Chopard with Bobby: She will give him sex in exchange for expensive jewelry.
This "Jillism" from Jill (season one):
"You should marry somebody who loves you a little bit more than you love them."

I feel more sorry for Bobby than ever before.

Imagine the sound of Jill having/faking an orgasm.

glamma: This one was worth catching up with!

Kelly yammering on the elliptical machine, while Ramona is trying to concentrate on proper form with hand-weights.
Kelly: "...I never sweat...I ran the marathon and my hair still looked great..."

somewhereelse, that Ilana at http://www.jewishjournal.com/keepingthefaith/item/real_housewives_of_new_york_city_ends_with_some_jew_hating_20100617/ is pretty good. Not as good as kylewest, though.

The best leftover was Ramona and Kelly exercising. Bravo could make a show out of Ramona's reaction shots.

My sisters are jealous of Bethenny's amazing recovery from pregnancy. She went from, as she put it, needing a jaw transplant, to looking great again.

And, Bethenny at her Costco book-signing. Whoever booked that signing for her, should get a different job.

I've never been to a Costco before; but based on the goodies I saw; and on recommendation from "Lobster" -- I think I might check it out. If just for the freebie tastings.

inonada: I remember the famous scene from the movie: "C.C. & Company" starring Broadway Joe Namath.

It opens with him wandering around a supermarket; while casually opening and eating all kinds of food.

No sample-giveaways. Just helping himself.

nyc10023: Will e-mail you soon.

Well, Mazel to Bethenny! Shawn , I don't think actually got paid -- he recieved the Press trade-off. He did a great job.

Ramona and Mario dressed beautifully. Simon and wife, not so much; but lovely they showed up with good intentions (and, got some more press; but they did look happy for Bethenny.)

Have any of you tried the "Skinny Girl" 'rita? How is it? Can I put some fresh fruit in it, and make it better, if not that good? Heard it's O.K.

she IS likeable and the episode was great. very sweet. i hope it works out for them (jesus, i sound like my mother).

Buster the wedding planner is just icing on the cake.

kyle - my guess is $200k-ish. not much for Bravo. i think the "3 mins to walk? oh crap i gotta pee!" is pretty common, even when you aren't pregnant. doing so in a bucket on camera, well...why not.

oh what google will get you. http://www.realitytea.com/2010/03/29/nyc-housewives-bethenny-frankel-is-married-wedding-details/?wpmp_switcher=desktop

maybe normal for wealthy manhattanites

so, i'm just guessing here, but the per person cost (food/drink/tax/service charges) was probably at least $50k. i wouldn't be surprised if renting the space was close to $50k. then you have flowers, cake, musicians, hair/make-up, transportation, photography, other stuff i'm forgetting. she also had to pay for security. easily $200k.
