Room transition height difference too big!

I just found out the height difference between the bathroom tile floor and the living room wood floor is too high, about 1.25" inches. When the marble saddle is in place, the height difference from the wood floor is about 1.5" (and hence I can actually see 0.5"-0.75" of the subfloor). I tend to believe this is too high. The bathroom door is an outswing door. Currently I am using a regular bevel marble threshold. I can "soften" the transition by using a Hollywood bevel marble threshold, however, the door gap will widen. I really can't think of a good solution to solve the situation. Any help is greatly appreciated.
