Horizontal opening windows - screens? shades?

We are moving into an apartment with horizontal opening windows. Is there any reason to think that the adjustable wood frame screens that I've used in normal opening windows to keep my cat inside and the bugs out won't work in these windows? (ie are they hung differently than regular vertical windows?) They are only 4-5' tall, so the size is not an issue. This is perhaps a silly question, but I am fairly inept at all things hardware related, so just want to be sure.
