I appreciate an elevator in a big townhouse, but it's rather inelegant that the elevator isn't accessible off the main foyer. Owners and guests have to walk through the kitchen & service areas to use. While I'm sure the staircase is a joy to use (while you're young and energetic), I'd rather have the servants do the trudging up and down, while I ride in comfort with my guests.
