We are mid 30s, 18 month old, another baby on the way. High income, but really want to try public in NYC as we are not attracted to the culture and environment that goes along with private schools, plus we would barely we able to afford it even at our income level. Currently renting on UWS, but would like to buy in a low-key neighborhood, where many kids go to the local school. Other pluses - quiet, green/tree-lined or near green space/waterfront, close to Whole Foods or farmers markets or similar grocers, low-key atmosphere (I know, hard in NYC) where children are welcome in restaurants, private outdoor space (for BBQ), nice view from apt, should be less than 45 minute door-to-door commute from Columbus Circle area. Looking to spend 1.5m max for a 2/3 bed, 2 ba. I haven't really come up with much besides Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Jersey City (Paulus Hook and waterfront), Park Slope. UWS could work, but not many good public schools and it seems many parents send their kids to private. Suggestions or personal experiences you can share? [less]
