Be Greedy When Others Are Vacant

Between the limited rental offerings on Street Easy for lower priced apartments and the unintelligible huddled masses of Craigslist, I'm having a hard time finding a great source of rental comp information. I'm looking to move into either the UES, W'Burg or Astoria in October, and I need some way to make an offer that is not only a discount from the asking price, but an actual bargain. Any thoughts in the SE-pedia realm?
