I just want to ask anyone if they know about The Jade building at 16 West 19th Street? I heard that the taxes were much higher than the average in the neighborhood and that was making sales very difficult. I also heard from a couple of current owners that the "pods" were cheaply made and poorly constructed. There are a couple of listing available in the building and I am curious why they have been on the market for so long?

I have stayed at a friends apartment at the Jade many times and all I can say is DO NOT BUY THERE! My friend owns an apartment that faces north (on to 19th street)...He is sooooo unhappy that he bought there because of a horrible night club across the street that is open ALL NIGHT. The people spill out on to the street until 6 am (drinking and shouting) and the cops are always there breaking up drunken bar fights. I know that many of the residents are unhappy about the situation and wish they hadn't bought there. My friend is looking for another place to live because it is so awful. The market is so terrible he is going to try to rent his place since he knows people are not buying right now.

You might check out this prior thread on Jade:

I couldn't resist going to an open house there after reading about the place (and not because I thought it would be good--I went for the same reasons I watch Real Housewives of NYC). I wrote a review with my impressions in the above thread. It is perhaps the most fun I ever had posting on here.

The building is a fiasco of nearly unequaled scale in the sphere of new condos, IMO. I seriously question the taste level and aesthetic sensibilities of anyone who upon seeing this train wreck then said, "I simply MUST live here."
