Discussion about
I'm looking for a 2BR rental in a good financial district/Battery Park City building with washer/dryer in apartment. Building management and apartment quality much more important than having pool, gym, sundecks etc. Any recommendations? Any buildings to avoid? Thanks very much!

In a professionally managed rental building (e.g. not an individual owner) in BPC, you will only get a W/D in the apartment at the Verdesian and possibly the Solaire. Also you should search for the streeteasy thread by the Atlanta guy looking to rent in FiDi/BPC - there is a lot of good building info there.

In FiDi, I don't think there are too many rental buildings with W/Ds in the unit (can't think of any off the top of my head but I'm sure there are some), although lots of the by owner units (particularly in the zombie condos) will have W/Ds in the unit. Be careful though, as many of those are the all-in-one variety that might be a royal pain in the butt.

Good luck!

20 Pine (a zombie unit referenced above) has W/Ds, but they are combined and as one person pointed out, those take forever. I can confirm that.

Is Chambers too far out of your area? 200 Chambers has 2 bedroom rentals with WD (don't know what kind, though). the combined w/d is only slightly better than drying on a line.

Thanks all for the responses, and agree that combined w/d unit would not be worth it. We're flexible on location (also considering UES and UWS), less so on budget -- were hoping to stay under $4k but that's looking tough.

250 w. 89th has a 2/2 for $4400. w/d isn't in unit, but laundry is on every floor. don't know the building, it's a condo.

Amen to having your own washer/dryer in the unit. I lived 10 years using the building's laundry. Now I do my laundry in my underwear at 2am inside my own apartment. It's such a luxury.

10 Liberty (Liberty Plaza) is a Glenwood Mgmt rental bldg. Most of the units have washer/dryers. Good service and management.

The second poster LIES LIES LIES. PLENTY of buildings in that area have in-unit W/d in 2 bedrooms. Try 75 west street/post towers. No frills whatsoever, but they do have w/d in all 2 bedrooms, doormen, elevators, and some EXTREMELY large terraces in some units (like 500-100 SF).

You can do a 2/2 with w/d for $4000, but you'll probably be in Murray Hill/Kips Bay or UES. Do a search for 2 bedrooms in your neighborhood for $4500 or less and add the word condo to the description search. Most rentals from large rental companies don't have a w/d at this price. Remember that things are negotiable, so set your seach rresults for newest and look from the last page forward.

One listed on East 76th Street for $4000 just went into contract.

Sorry - not trying to umm..."lie" just couldn't think of any FiDi all-rental buildings with W/D in the unit. I still really don't think there are that many - what other buildings besides 75 West St. have them?

downtownster, there are very few all-rental buildings period that have them. even for the three bedrooms. and certainly not in this price range. although happily, my search did indicate that it's possible in condo rentals.

someone mentioned the Verdisian, or whatever it's called. That might.
