Any recommendations for a company to install a new roof, single family home in Queens? Thanks in advance.

A friend of mine got a roof done in Brooklyn about a year ago. He went to Home Depot for their contracting personnel/service. I'm not sure if they still have that service. Anyway, long story short. The guys come out the next day and gives a quote of $28K. My friend basically tells them to go f*ck themselves. The next day the contractor calls back and says he has his own business separate from Home Depot and would do the job for $15K. Incredibly shady, but not too surprising in this business. My friend verified his license and eventually gave him the job for $14K. Its tough getting legitimate honest quotes out there. I would start with Home Depot to probably get the highest bid and work down from there. The contractor from Home Depot probably also does independent work so maybe you can work with them independently.

Many people use a large contractor called Major Homes. They are not cheap but my neighbors have been happy with their work. They have different crews for different parts of the roofing job, so everything is done very fast. They send in the demolition guys early in the morning, the old roof is off by noon. After the lunch break, a new crew shows up to start roofing. As I sit here looking out my office window, I can see three roofs they've done down this block in the past 4 years. They look nice and seem to be holding up. I have never dealt with this company myself, so can only report what my neighbors tell me.

I used John Clancy (based in Valley Stream) to do my house in Long Beach -- he did what he said he was going to do at the price he said he was going to do it at -- around $7K or $8K, I don't remember. (Roof prices always depend on whether they can cover your existing roof, or have to tear it off).

Don't know if he'd do Queens or not, but worth a try .. 718-276-6334

Thanks NYCNative12, generalogoun and ali. I didn't even think of Home Depot (have never been happy with their followup) but will try these leads! Thanks again!
