I lived there about 20 years ago-the building looks very much like Lincoln Towers from the outside--it was 100% co-op, maintenance included ultiities and nice pool, cookie cutter apartments

Julia, it's a cute little low-rise co-op sort of clinging to the cliff on Palisade Avenue. You can see it to the left as you go over the bridge. There was a story about it either in the paper or on HGTV awhile back.

nservidio: This is a nice building, currently live here. Building has a pool, 24 hour doorman, commumnity area, park, and parking. Only downside of the building is the waiting list to get a parking spot but Theres plenty of Garages close. The service is good and building has a wonderful secretary.

I'm considering this building and would love to hear more about it from current or former residents. Are the financials solid? Why are there so many apartments currently on the market? What is the demographic mix-- mostly retirees? Mostly young families? It seems as if you can get a lot for your money here--prices are now very low, maintenance is pretty low considering it includes utilities and a 24-hour doorman. Is there a catch or a downside to this building? I've visited several times and seen spacious apartments with beautiful views, some with lovely renovations. This was in fact the first building I saw when I decided to look in Riverdale, and it still seems like a great deal in terms of price/value. Can someone tell me more?

I'm familiar with the building, but never lived there. You do get a lot of space, great views and amenities for the money at 555. There is a large elderly population who seem to hang out in the lobby waiting for the mail and to gossip. Ambulances also seem to frequent the building.....which can get a little depressing.....Otherwise, building appears to be well managed with an onsite office. Less services in South Riverdale than central, so if you don't have a car that may be an issue.

Well-run building, with great staff, beautiful views, and all amenities included in the maintenance.

There are several reasons there are so many apartments on the market. The biggest is that there are a large percentage of studios and 1 BRs...not many people want to buy a studio in Riverdale. And this is compounded by the fact that the building doesn't allow any sublets, at all. If they allowed sublets, at least for the smaller apartments, there might be fewer on the market.

... I looked into this building 5 years ago when I saw a NOTICE OF SALE BY VIRTUE OF DEFAULT 5 years ago on unit 1K.

That being said I think that property has been in limbo for a very long time. The maintenance is very high around $1,000 a month on a 1 bedroom.
