I have a question regarding having an appraisal on my home in NY. I recently received a letter informing me that my taxes were going to increase and increase greatly, because my home had increased in value lately. In speaking with the county assessors office, he suggested that I hire an appraiser to view my home and if it is less than their amount to take that appraisal into their office and they would adjust the amount of taxes they are charging me. Now my question, in making this appraisal, what factors are considered in determining my home's value? I have received 3 different amounts from three different places, those being my realty agent, a buyers agent and now the county. How can each amount vary by so much and who is correct in assessing the value? Thanks to all who offer advice. [less]
