Discussion about
Looking to lower my rent for a Classic 7 (or a four bedroom) on the UWS. Currently in 10023 but would grudgingly consider 10024. I know that a huge C7 at 235 West 76th Street just went for $8k and there's one listed on W79th for $8400. Thoughts? Preference would be with a full-time doorman. Also, does anyone have any insight into what's going on with 30 W 70th and the estate sale? Thanks in advance
I think i saw the one on West 79th (corner of Broadway?). Its big, but i thought the classic 6 was $8400 and the classic 7 was $9k+.

236W76 has one line of classic 7s (apt B), 3 lines of 6s (A, B, D, E).
typo 235w76.
Thanks nyc10023, I wanted a floorplan for that building. When I first came to NYC I had a summer sublet of the maid's room in a 4-line. All I remember is the great view looking into the Apthorp.
I have 235W76, as well as the the large bldg on Amsterdam, NE corner of 72nd. How do you post jpgs or pdfs so they display on SE?
VanDyke and Severn, also from the NYPL. Spent a day there many years ago xeroxing from microfilm of those two or three books that they now have online.
Was in 235W76 once, but didn't make an impression so didn't track it down.
One of these decades I'll get my stacks of plans organized and scanned.
NWT: Yeah, I wonder if it would be cheaper for me to order copies online. We share a love of prewar floorplans - I have a ton of them digitally saved from OLR (but they pulled a lot of them off, do you know why?) and I scan ones from OHs as well.
OLR I never got to.
The Corcoran office by Zabars used to have ring-bound copies of almost all plans. Would use those to get page numbers, and then get digital version from a now-defunct RE site that had them all online.
Thanks for the comments. 10023 (or anyone), what do you think of 230 w 79th, particularly the classic 7? isn't that the building on the southeast side of Broadway?
Anyone know of anything in 10023?
There's always 344W72, Chatsworth.
Right, SE corner. 230W79 is a good old-fashioned UWS rental. The dim lobby, probably LL-grade kitchens, layers of paint, etc. I like that kind of thing, but don't know how it compares rent-wise. 365WEA or 441-451WEA would be quieter.
what's the skinny on the chatsworth? do they have C7s?
Thanks again.
The Van Dyke has a seven available (NE 72 and Broadway) Nice apt.

Here is a large and renovated Classic 6 at 585 WEA (88th Street). Beautiful prewar building. $6500/month. One month free rent (applied to the 12th month of the lease) and one month brokerage fee. Contact Stacey at (212) 994-3251. Jeff
Re 230 West 79th - I remember being more disappointed with the building than the apartment. The location and liquor store didn't leave the most favorable impression. My notes are sparse for this place. I wrote down "large" and "good views". LOL. I think the views were far spanning rooftops, facing north if I recall. Not great views, but no building obstruction either. I remember the place feeling huge. I think light was good. If there were obvious problems with floors or overall condition, etc, I would have noted them. Not sure if the one that's currently available is the one we saw. They were asking $9500 a month or so ago.

it's farther north than you mentioned, but might be worth a look
Karen23 - thanks. any idea on the specifics on the Van Dyke. Isn't there a bank on the NE conner of 72nd and Broadway?
Classic: Yes, it's a Capitol One Bank. The apartment is on the second floor. LR faces Verdi Square as does one of the large Bedrooms (there are three and a large maids room with its own bath. Other beds face air shaft. Giant LR and DR. Elevator opens into a private foyer. Rent around 8 but it's probably somewhat negotiable. Samson manages the building
Oh Classic...no doorman!
