Vinyl sided homes next to a building valued over 1 million dollars. LOL.

That vinyl-sided building is quintessential Williamsburgh. Beneath it is either beautiful red brick, with the masonry details chipped off by the petro-tinmen; or else wood that's rotting away because it's enclosed by the siding -- so much that it doesn't pay to put real clapboard or shingles (or cool newer cementitious material) up instead.

buster2056; interesting choices: most people would pick new construction, but for those tow building: 140 7th ave I remember on more than one occasion walking down 7th avenue with buyers having no intention of showing them anything in 140 7th and having them point and blurt out "don't show us anything in that building ever!!!". (had the same thing happen a little further down 7th ave at 22 Perry.).

85 8th has been unaffectionately referred to as "The Prison" for years.

My personal list is way too long to even start.

Alpine, you're not to be blamed for not knowing basic Manhattan skyline geography -- you live in the Garden State.

I still think this is the tackiest renovation in the history of New York.

This ugly thing paved the way for the Time Warner monstrosity across the Circle.

I like the little spitting-balconies. I hope it's in a fun location with lots of sidewalk traffic.

It's a low ask but it's been on the market forever.

AR,
seen that one up close and personal. Since I consider most of the buildings on this island part of some hodge podge, I am usually liberal. This one hurts my feelings. I would tell you where it really belongs but, as you know I'm am taking a WB bashing break.

mo-effin'-fugly.

i think curbed did the wb comparison for you.

i haven't been in b'burg for a few years, but i liked the feel of many parts of it. but there are huge numbers of developments, in the short term it won't be pleasant, particularly for purchasers who need to sell. if they did a bunch of this, i'd have to reconsider. you can only tolerate so much ugliness on a daily basis.

the advantage b'burg has over LIC or more obscure parts of brooklyn, etc. is that its retail services are much further advanced. it will become, at least in the short to medium term, a great rental location for the young. and they will get some lovely apartments at very low prices. it may not be a great thing to think about if you bought in the last couple of years, but if you bought enough for your long-term needs and you are a happy sort who can ignore asset price issues, you might be very happy there. although didn't the oh-so-famous thai place just close? this is just a cluster, everywhere, although i was overjoyed that the horrid overpriced chocolate by the bald man in the east village closed.
