Discussion about
We should have a meetup sometime in our neighborhood... Wine and Roses, anyone?

Sounds good. Would we use real names or handles? That's no longer an issue for me, but others may prefer anonymity (including you, perhaps?).

Never been to W&R; have heard good things. Alternatively, I can host. You know where I live anyway.

wondering that myself. not using real names seems awfully awkward. perhaps an agreement not to disseminate info? not ideal, but on this board at least we could self-police fairly well.

How about we simply don't reveal our screen names, with the rule that if you happen to guess or match the screen name to the real name, we tactfully agree not to advertise it.

I think I'd have to be silent for you not to guess. And then you'd be able to guess, because I'd be the silent one!!

Come as your "favorite" broker. I'll be Dolly (I've always wanted to be rich via ill-gotten gains).

Okay, let's pick a time and date. Week night works best for me - say a Wed. or Thurs., 7:30pm? Wine & Roses
is good. Riposo Wine bar (on 72nd & Columbus) is good as well.

UWSmom, congratulations in spite of the greenness.

Anonymity online is more mirage than reality, and I've probably blown my cover by now anyway if anyone really cared to track me down. I'd still like to come dressed as Babs, though. I'll tell all the sellers that their apartments are worth $500k less than they paid for them, just like on TV! (kidding, sellers, kidding)

Mimi is absolutely right that Wine & Roses is right near where rufus claimed to live, near the projects of Upper West Side.

Also, I only outed mimi as rufus to provide the level of paranoia that she was seeking in us. I respectfully retract that most callous statement. Sorry, Mimi!

Alanhart...No one could take "Mimi is Rufus" seriously. Mimi has posted extensively about her interest in (and current residency) Harlem. Rufus on the on the other hand probably thinks Harlem is a place bad people (who he mistakingly believes does not include pyschotic homophobic racists) go when they die.

Hello all. I've organized one of these online forum meet-ups before. There was a bit of preliminary paranoia, but everyone ended up having a splendid time. No axe murderers or stalkers RSVP'd.

Count me in on either the 20th or 21st.

JM, it's been awhile since we've had any meaningful conversation on this board, but I do recall that you are generally civil. So I ask you, would I enjoy talking about politics with you (btw, I don't mind opposing viewpoints in the slightest, I have a number of close friends who are Republicans)? If you think yes, then I'd love to (unless I'm talking education with 10023, or crazy hats with alanhart).

Lizyank: Alan knows I'm not rufus...actually, we are off-line friends. I live 5000 miles away, so I can't possibly attend, though I would love to! My paranoia was probably enhanced by having my identity stolen (together with all the money in a bank account) a couple of months ago...which has nothing to do with meeting SE people off-line, but seems to have made me somewhat more paranoid. I met a couple of SE posters in a trip to NY, and it was delightful. I'll be in NY looking at places in Harlem and the UWS for several weeks in the summer, so hopefully I'll have a chance to attend a meeting in the future.
