Discussion about
I am looking for suggestions for storage places. I live in Manhattan and have a small 1BR (600 sq.feet) apt. Place is very sparsely furnished and my personal belongings will fit in approx. 20 boxes. Can you please provide recommendations for a storage space close to Manhattan (Queens, etc.). I assume a space will cost more in Manhattan. Also, any ideas about the approx. space I would need to fit in 20 boxes (medium), a couch and love seat, chest of drawers a coffee table and a glass tv stand. Info about costs, security, etc. would be most helpful. I am looking to use the service for a year. Thanks.

I've never used Manhattan mini storage so can't vouch for them but their website helps you calculate roughly how much space you'd need. That, at least, might be a good way to start...

I use (and recommend) Storage Plus in Long Island City. It is a well-run place with decent operating hours, clean, reasonably-priced, ample parking, easy to get in and out of. Of course, it's not as conveniently located as a space in Manhattan, but overall it compares favorably to any other storage facility I have used.

Chelsea Mini Storage - website has savings from 35% - 50% off regular prices plus coupon for free lock...i have a space their and they are very good

That is a lot of stuff, so that might run $250-$300 per month, before savings

Hi there,

You might want to check out our Storage Blog: http://blog.manhattanministorage.com/addicted-to-flickr-whats-in-your-storage-unit/
There is a picture of the inside of a Manhattan Mini Storage unit and all the things you can fit in there from someone actual storage unit.

I don't think that you'll need THAT much room! And I sure don't think you'll need to spen THAT much money even in NYC!! With MMS you can have our assitance services, http://www.manhattanministorage.com/do/concierge, the free storage taxi to help you move, plus all our facilites are 100% secure and many are open 24/7!

I used Manhattan Mini Storage for over a year and was very pleased with them. They also donate to the ASPCA (or Humane Society, I forget which) to spay or neuter NY stray dogs ... which made me happier about doing business with them in general. We have enough space for now but definitely plan on using them again.
