any opinion in upper east side 94th to 98th

I am almost ready to sign contract in a coop in uppereast side, Still even though I find the area fascinating around Carnegie hill I find that when I tell my other manhattan friends about buying a place up here that they think this part of uppereast if too far north. Almost like a fringe area. I would like to read other peoples opinion about this neighborhood. I guess most of my friends are the soho, west village types. I am open minded and have a weak spot for prewar renovated buildings.

If you like the neighborhood, don't worry about it. We're all dismissive of neighborhoods other than our own. (Though I've never heard anyone say they wouldn't want to live on 9th or 10th between Fifth and Sixth.)
