Does anyone know how much $$ the NY Times dude could expect from his book deal?

Not a good bet. Virtually all books get just a piddly advance, and very rarely earn the author more than that. He could be the one-in-100,000 who makes a nickel, though.
I just saw him and his wife on the Today show...he doesn't come across very well...very hesitant speech and he can't explain how someone with his financial knowledge got into the situation. They still have the house and they're still together as a couple.
And, the book is Busted and will be coming out next week...i'll be buying a copy.
If he knows the right people & can get on Oprah ....... Of course he's hesitant; he's supposed to have been smarter than to step in the doo & track it all over the house. That orgy of greed & spending was v-e-r-y intoxicating.
His advance turned out to be $100K. So after 10% to his agent (who did a great job selling the thing) and after taxes, he'll make a dent in his mortgage arrears.
Oprah's unlikely. Today is not a book-selling show, but can't hurt.
just watched the video. barf....no one seems to get this. (him, NYT, NBC) if i were barack obama trying to figure out a fair way to bail out innocent home owners, I would want to slap this guy. he epitomizes the stereotype of the non remorseful asshole who wanted it all but didn't want to pay for it.
i also think he got caught up in the "love bug" with his new wife...i don't know why but i'm hooked on this story.
exactly cc. and many people in this country already wish to blame the victims. this is just fodder for their argument.
julia, it's repellently compelling.
ar...i agree
Julia,
Give me a break! This guy should admit his stupidity, quit blaming it on others, give his house back to the bank, and rent something he can afford. If his new wife isn't willing to get with the program, well, then, I guess it wasn't love after all. It's not the American Dream people like them were living, it was a Pipe Dream.
By the way, no need to buy the book; just read the NYT Magazine article.
The book you will want to read by him has yet to be written by him because he needs to live it first (story of losing it all, leading to self-awareness, self-reflection, and questioning of values, etc.). If you buy his current book, you are just "aiding and abetting."
