use the search feature on SE and choose the no fee option. Apts. with no fee are listed in green text.

Here's a list of rental buildings, doesn't include the new ones though (see date of post)

Try One Columbus Place. It's a Brodsky bldg on 59th and 9th, right between UWS and Mid Town. Brokers are now showing this bldg, which is new, vacancies must be up, but you can contact the mgmt office directly and they'll show you units. I'm guessing $4-$5K for 2 bed /2 bath.

nybits.com -- you'll find the brodsky listing there as well as a bunch of others.

someone mentioned www.urbansherpany.com the other day -- mostly smaller walk up type of buildings there ...

and of course there is good old craigslist

In columbus circle area:
Glenwood has Regent (40 W 60) and Grand Tier (1930 Broadway) - both have 2bed/2bth though regent is cheaper.
Ogden Cap has One Lincoln Plaza and Dorchester Towers - Lincoln Towers has fairly large junior 4 with 1.5 baths.
Tower 67 145 W 67th St has 2bd/2bath which are fairly reasonalble in my estimation the best deal when we were looking couple of months ago.
As previously mentioned Broadsky has buildings in the area. Archstone has rental buildings far west of columbus circle.
