As above-What is this? Side note, some of the apartments with this seem to be described as "Sick" so I hope that doesn't have anything to do with infectious disease.

I think it's a narrow strip of shelf over the toilet -- like the handle of a banjo.

I googled and only saw results for that bathroom as you describe, but the ad made it seem like it was talking about the kitchen. It could have been just badly written ad copy

pier45, it's probably just a shallow (less than 24-inch depth) counter in a kitchen where a bumpout prevents a standard counter, or along a kitchen wall in a narrow galley that had no counter originally. Do you have a floorplan?
