This is good, except if you are stevejhx who was hoping that the banks couldn't repay the TARP and so that compensation would be limited by law - obviously his goals are a drop in real estate prices (which I'm ok with too, but so I can purchase, not because I hate all people who own property) but also just his general class warfare against people who actually make and have money.

They shouldn't be allowed to repay, because the banks are all insolvent. If we let them repay TARP, by fall they will have to ask for more money again, and there will be no political will to give it them. The whole point of this exercise is to fix the problem and make sure it doesn't happen again. Not to hide it under the rug until the next disaster comes rolling around, and it will because the bank balance sheets are degrading month by month. It's like Mr. Jones saying he can make the min. payment on his credit card this month because he sold some junk on ebay, but by Aug he's out of luck. I don't care if you can make your min. this month, I need to know that you can grow your income enough to pay it a year from now.

most banks want to repay TARP, but believe it or not, the law makes it hard for them to do so! So the law had to be changed.

alpine, there have been banks that have repaid tarp, but you shouldn't be allowed to repay tarp if you are using FDIC guarantees on your debt. that's a back door to the same thing. you have an unfair advantage over someone that has no guarantees and doesn't have access to tarp.

Very nice.
And like all other indicators this is a very very good sign. The banks are now overflowing with liquidity. It's a matter of time before they open the floodgate.

I wouldn't trust anyone that doesn't know how to read a balance sheet, analysts are totally hopeless.

Liquidity = Available Credit

These banks are getting it from outside the government by issuing more debt or shares. The thing is, they're being brought now compare to 6 months back.

Yes, all those thousands of BofA traders and bankers who got restricted shares at $50 are going to rush out and buy NYC real estate now that its at $10.

LMAO... wouldn't it be funny if they paid back the TARP and 6 months later came hat in hand to seek TARP 2.0?

TARP 2.0 would be too psychologically scarring for the Children. It shall be named TARP 1.A.

Missed you last night, w67th, but we did indeed drink to you.
