Seems all the high end italian restaurants will incorporate a Fiano into their pairings. This is one of the most amazing and least drank varietals I know of, and not expensive. Also South African Sauvignon Blanc is very underated. Anyone try IONA? Any other stories?

it's not exactly unknown, but i'm finding exceptional value in the malbecs (the restaurant Buenos Aires in the East Village has a lovely list that they have intentionally underpriced compared to the rest of the restaurant market). i used to focus on red zins, but i'm finding that the quality there seems to be declining while the prices are increasing.

awareness of the vernaccia di san gimingano (sp?) was one of the true treasures i brought home from Tuscany. not many restaurants in NYC carry it though. Caccio e vino has a lovely one on its wine list.

I would add to the list South African Pinot Noir(Hamilton Russel)
Descendientes de J. Palacios, Bierzo(Mencia grape)
and two from CDP(Clos du mont oliviet & Montpertuis)

Wine & Roses had a decent malbec by the glass, so it's definitely becoming more popular. It's still very affordable though.
