Discussion about Gramercy Arms at 145 East 15th Street in Gramercy Park
Does anyone know much about tis building? We are deciding between 145 E 15th and 201 E17th St. We like the apartment and location of 145 E 15th better but 201 E 17th seems like a better building. Thanks!

In the early 90's i subletted an alcove studio at 145 e 15, nice building, clean, nice common areas. LOVED the apt and LOVED the location. Was always sorry I did not exercise the option to buy. Never looked at 201 e 17, but do know when the economy is good there are about a zillion for sale at low prices so you may want to keep that in mind. So to sum it up, know the building, loved it but it was a while ago
used to live at 145. Loved it. Third Ave is very loud there with buses and sirens. With the windows closed it was ok, but with them open on the third ave side it was murder. If you are in the back or on the south side it is no problem. One of the nice things about the third avenue side is the building across the street is low, so there is lots of am sun. Well run building. Not the prettiest but good midlevel housing. Slightly higher ceilings than some other buildings. Good sized rooms(bigger than 201). Never heard any neighbor noise(maybe drowned out by the street noise).
I think 201 is actually a better location -- quieter as its away from 14th -- better roof deck
A family member moved in this past Fall and is very happy at 145, found residents and staff to be very nice and no noise from other apts. Major items were redone over the past few yrs so interior and exterior are in excellent shape. Well run with good financials and stable maint. Extremely convenient location in the middle of everything but it's nice that the entry is on a quiet block, makes it easy to load or unload a car, etc. Irving place is very nice. Don't know about 201 E 17th but it's best to buy the space you would be happiest coming home to, if both bldgs are financially similar.
