Absolutely ridiculous ... that said, as the owner of a very senior dog, I do get the dog mention!! (That said - as much as I adore my dog - he isn't going to live long enough to make me want to live off the lobby)

But you get to have your cake and eat it too -- you can pay the extra expense of an elevator in your maintenance, while still not having to stare silently at your neighbors' shoes for an awkward 25 seconds.

The only problem I see with living on the first floor is if you are street facing. In my opinion, a middle of the building apt on the 6th or 7th floor with a view of an apt on the 6th or 7th floor across the street is not worth the extra expense, maintenance etc.

I live on the lobby level and I love it, particularly after having spent years in a fifth-floor walkup. As long as you don't hear noise from the lobby, the advantages are real.

You're right, that copy is pretty silly. However, like evnyc, I once enjoyed living in a "maisonette." In that apartment, we didn't get noise from the lobby, we had a lot of light and there wasn't much foot trafic outside. We also had private access to a courtyard, so we had a container garden and a barbecue. I guess it all depends on how the apartment is situated within the building and on the block. BTW, I can attest to the truth of one of the copywriter's claims: when the electricity goes off, you will have easy access to your apartment AND running water, unlike the folks on the top floors. That actually did happen to us. As usual, one man's Mede is another man's Persian.

Fine if you're renting. If you're buying - first floor apts are very hard to sell on, even in frothy markets.
