Central park west rental on 57th st/8th ave - anyone?

this is apparently a large rental building (say with 100 apartments or mor) I walked into. The doorman said they rent ONLY THRU BROKERS! They had a broker sitting there full time apparently (I happened to walk into the building at 6:30 PM). Anyone know this building? I like the location, but am averse to paying a fee for "finding" in a building I know.

there is no full-time broker in the building. It sounds like the broker bribed the doorman for referrals. This is common practice in NYC...it sucks but a way to get around it is to network, post on these message boards or find out who the mgt company is and contact them directly (they have no vested interest in whether you use a broker, just want a good tenant).
