Bugelrex:About $585. However, the place needs probably about 25k of work, which I'll do as I go.
I wanted a fixer-upper.

mdasch.. if the $25K brings the sq ft up to $1000psf.... I'd have to say "not so good." otherwise, enjoy :), I'm happy a MD can afford to "buy" in NYC... the ship is righting itself as we speak.....

MD? I wish. First initial / Last name.

The 25k brings it to $623. However, it is livable now. And will be as I renovate it the way I like it. It looked like other apartments were 'barely' renovated. I'd rather start from the 'beginning' and add new appliances and such.

mdasch,

Nice, sounds like a reasonable price. You'll get to know the HomeDepot on 59th pretty well :)

Getting the keys to our new place was one of the nicest moments of my life. Forget psf and enjoy.

sjbh: I'll move in within the next week. I had bailed on a new construction in Williamsburg 8 months ago and have been living with the folks since (since my lease on the UES was up and I didn't know I'd be bailing on the new construction).

you bailed, as in you gave up your deposit? or did you get it back?

Congratulations, mdasch! I hope you'll keep the board busy with renovation questions. Good luck with your new home!

It was a battle. I received about 70% of it back - A small price to pay for what I'm sure I would have lost buying into a tax-abated new construction at prices of last June.

Mdash, I am going to email you to ask you some questions about getting your money back as I am in that same situation right now.
