Does anyone know what a virtual doorman is in this building? Is it just an intercom, maybe with video?

Its an off-site doorman with video intercom. When you buzz the intercom, the off-site office is alerted. They then view the camera and ask you which apartment you are there for. They then contact the apartment and ask if its ok to let you in. Basically, it gives the homeowner an added layer of anonymity.

We had it in a building I lived in. We disliked the service so much that we eventually had it disconnected.

I don't see a point to this. A lot of new buildings already have video intercoms. A virtual doorman is only useful if you want to pay more CC for that so called amenity.
