Sorry but I can't seem to get help from the State so I hope to pick the brains of SE since I know many smarties hang out here. I am being laid off by a NY company but I live in NJ. My official layoff date is Aug 31 but I am moving to NYC June 30. Do you know if I still qualify for NYC unemployment benefits of 1.3 years max? I have checked the net and have called NY DOL and can't get a straight answer or can't get through at all. Thanks you SE'ers
Sorry to hear that.
I'm pretty sure unemployment is paid out by your home state, which is probably a good thing for you because NY has crappy unemployment maximums. Call or go in to your NJ unemployment office, or check both states' websites, to confirm.
Best of luck.
Your HR person should know. This has to be pretty common.
You would collect unemployment from the state in which you worked, in this case, NY. The following link may be of help:

Thank you all for your help!
