Discussion about
I don't agree. Have you seen any public outcry over the recent increases in base salaries at banks? Have you noticed how this whole AIG bonus debate died away? Are you also aware of the fact that there are some banks that have paid retention bonuses recently?
the increases have been for very few / key people. i work on the street..bases arent being raised. comp packages will be designed differently in the future to lower bonus / higher base but that will also act as an impediment to high $$$ RE purchases. ur not gonna see GS on the front page of the post talking about how much mohey they set aside for comp this year.
the obama administrtion is playing robin hood with wall street. gonna be a tough couple years before the masses get paid again.
Since when did the folks south of Worth street give a shit about what anyone thinks or says. One of the greatest economic crimes ever recorded in human history and the now for the consequences..............
drum roll please..........
I understand that they are going to take Angelo Mozilo's tanning bed away.
but falco, aren't you just a bit pissed off that they're not sending him up the river? Martha Stewart can be sent to the slammer, but not his orangeness?
hahahah..his orangeness..
sec is goin after him as we speak for insider trading / breach of fiduciary duties
yeah, but they're starting a civil action, not criminal. taking a guy's tanning beds away has got to hurt, but trading them for an orange suit and a bunk bed behind bars has got to hurt more.
AR,
This is a town that prides itself for attacking successful women.
It starts with the Bible! We live in a patriarchal society. Anything that threatens that dominance we find very scary. Martha picks up the phone and says, "OK, sell" on what is clearly an incedental trade considering her great wealth and, she ends up hustling cigeretts on the third tier. Leona Helmsley sneeks a few nick-nacks for her home through the biz and she ends up with jail house tattoos. Let me hang outside Costco and arrest every person who buys tolit paper for their home but, pay with the business CC. Leaving her money to a dog was nothing short of a 'FU' to New York. Brook Astor, who admittedly treated her only son like a piece of shit...from the grave has demonized her daughter-in-law. What was her crime again? Oh yeah, she liked Brooks ear rings...big crime. Brook Astor was a self serving gold digger who only gave $$$ to agrandize her own image and fame. She married well and physically and emotionaly abandoned her child. If that was my Mom the second I gained power of attorney she'd be living in a cardboard box next to the East river. Woman bashing in this town has been a little slow so you have to take what you get.
Not so rough on the fellas.
marco_m, base salaries were raised across the board not just for key people. And you didn't respond to my point where the recent outcry has been? I am pretty sure this will be a relatively good year on WS.
we've lost a few banks, a few are doing horribly, and that leaves what? JPM, GS and MS? Anyone else out there having a ripping good time? the hedgies seem to be doing better these days, but they have a lot of ground to make up. PE? LBOs? have heard mixed things. just don't see the numbers. less competition, so the good ones do really, really well, but that doesn't seem like a particularly good year in terms of numbers of people doing well.
Falco, I don't disagree with you, although I don't know the specifics of the Astor story. His Orangeness deserves prison, IMHO.
ar, there are more banks than just JP, GS and MS. How about Deutsche and CS to just name a few? There is a bigger world than just US banks...
People won't care if they have jobs and get raises and can pay for healthcare and buy their kids some toys. Right now they are angry, but in this country we don't have the longest attention spans. Also, look, if the banks are behaving appropriately (and by that I mean not being leveraged 40X and they will be much more closely regulated going forward like it or not) and they are making money...good for them! Because if they are making money that means a whole lot of other industries and people are making money and hiring people, etc. The banks are not evil. People got angry, the banks f'ed up and the deserved to get smacked around. Okay, now let's get a good solution so we can all move forward and make some money and get back to not worrying about who'e head we want to put on a spike.
how are they doing Carnegie? i'm fully aware of the CSs, UBSs, SocGens, RBSs, etc. waverly, just wondering where these profits are going and to whom.
my base didnt go up. theres been an exodus of people form large shops to small shops becuase thats the only way to get paid. the days of $$ cash payouts are gone for a while. if any bank reported that comp was up significantly there would be a bailout media frenzy.
i meant to say large cash payouts
AR - I am not sure I understand the question?
just meant that on this thread at least not looking for heads on spikes. just trying to ascertain what impact wall street bonuses will have this (next) year on the real estate buying pool. what the profits will be at the end of the day (year) and how they will be distributed.
I would imagine that '09 bonuses paid out in Q1 '10 will be somewhat similar to what they paid out this year. It would be a good mix of short and long-term comp. I do think, however, that 2010 will be a significantly stronger year for the industry. How the TARP firms handle things will be interesting, but remember, only the top 5 or 10 executives have their compensation handcuffed.
I would think rank and file employees will get cash bonuses along the same lines as to what they got for last year, but there is still a good amount of '09 to be played so things could change.
Im rank and file and if we get what we got last year, steveF and alpie are gonna be cryin
marco - yeah, some were okay and I know some who zip/nada/nothing....and I think that will happen again this year (albeit less).
