No matter what your view of the original plan, this is, I think, truly a travesty. It is a shameful betrayal of the public trust,... [more]

Here is my prediction: The arena will never be built and the Nets will stay in New Jersey.

I'm sorry, Ourousoff goes through this exercise as though he and his paper weren't a part to the justly described travesty. Critics of this project from day one referred to the architect as the bait in bait & switch. Instead of going after the developer and the travesty of a fixed approval process, the NYTimes built a new headquarters with Ratner and pronounced this boondoggle a "garden of eden." Complete with snake, unsurprisingly. The only reason this shed is being proposed is because Ratner knows he has zip chance of getting this team sold without a new arena, period. The whole project should be yanked from him. Let's see the NYT and the rest of the Gehry cheerleaders come down from Cloud Cuckoo Land and get behind that long overdue idea. Remember: the longer Ratner has any right to this huge chunk of Brooklyn the more opportunity he has to inflict blight, with or without cheesy architecture.
