Discussion about
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/14/fashion/14ruth.html?pagewanted=1&sq=RUTH%20MADOFF&st=cse&scp=3 She(Ruth Madoff) no longer goes to her gym, Equinox, one block south of her penthouse, where she paid $1,200 a month for a membership; representatives of the gym would not comment. I'll bet Equinox wouldn't comment. Where's the Better business bureau?

That must be a typo - like an extra zero.

Unless you factor in 3 training sessions a week @ $70+ plus lunches and/or spa services.
basic membership is around $130. A big reason why I cancelled and now train myself in my building..

ok so what?? if I had the money I would pay $1200 a month for Equinox for "3 training sessions a week @ $70 plus lunches and/or spa services" why not?? what is the big deal? a Better business bureau for what? that they didn't want to comment or it is to expansive?
I go to equinox and pay $170 a month for all access and it is worth every penny.

I'm surprised that she went to the Equinox or any gym for that matter. All the chi-chi ladies I know have personal trainers at home.

The Equinox on Lexington is fairly high end. I am not surprised. Amazing how those $70 bills add up. She must have been very bored.

There's an exclusive "E" club at Equinox, that has separate facilities from the rest of the gym. She wasn't sweating with the plebes.

They have an expensive exclusive club. You don't see people in their 60s and over at gyms that 20s people go to.

The Grey Poupon of gyms, not a bad idea from Equinox's point of view. @ Reebok, they just provide an exclusive locker room. Another reason why I'll be using my building's gym.

Equinox is too expensive if it is 170 per month. 2040 per year. Wow.

I think that too much beyond real estate in NY is too expensive, gyms, monthly subway, parking, coffee habbit

See, I have to argue that neither coffee nor the subway are blowing holes in people's budgets in this city. You can get coffee for a buck at most street cart vendors, and the subway is cheaper than any comparable city's. Real estate, sure; gyms, maybe. Parking - why would anyone bother to own a car here unless they are so wealthy that the parking costs don't matter?

Maybe I've been here too long that $23.5k doesn't sound that bad for unlimited personal training?

me? Nomore, welcome to the board, but I think if you hang around a bit you'll find I'm not exactly elitist. Personal trainers cost a lot of money, so that figure seems low to me. Assuming each one has several clients, those personal trainers can't be making a lot.

Do not feel bad for the thieves. They have harmed so many people. She should be in jail, too. Skank!

Sugoi workout attire freshly laundered and waiting in one of the private shower and changing cabanas (pictured) along with a Frette robe.
The cabanas are also fully stocked with Molton Brown hair and skin care products -- and special requests, such as a specific deodorant or pre-workout snack, will also be accommodated.

Lunges with a trainer or running on the aromatherapy treadmill,

Workout will be closely monitored by one of E's managers, who will track your progress and schedule your sessions.

They'll arrange for you to meet with a private golf coach who'll video tape your swing and give you personalized pointers.
