Discussion about
Any commentary on the neighborhood/building? Really liked the apartment, etc. just unsure of this particular area of Tribeca. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have a rental near there. Find area very safe due to police presence around Court of International Trade, other court buildings. Otherwise not very residential. Many businesses close very early. E.g., Duane Reade in my building often closes before I return home from work.

Thanks! We noticed that; you have to walk west past west broadway to hit seemingly anything.

I have a rental in the area as well, and I think it's a good area. Transportation is great. You are right near Whole Foods, which is no small thing given the paucity of grocery stores in the area. You are near a public library, which to me is a big plus. It does tend to be a bit dead and less neighborhood-y after dark. Not interesting in the way that the villages are, but very, very livable, especially if you have a family.

Also, less of a chance that you will be stepping through pools of vomit on your doorstep than you might encounter in the East or West Village. To me that is priceless.

Worth is extremely loud at night due to Brooklyn bridge truck traffic so I wouldn't consider buying an apt on Worth at any price if you value your sleep.

10013, good to know. I am a few blocks away and would never have thought of that unless I was seriously looking at a place.

Worth does not have ant Brooklyn Bridge truck traffic for two reasons:
1. Commercial traffic is banned on the Brooklyn Bridge.
2. Worth St does not connect the East and West side of Manhattan so is useless as a truck route.

I have seen tour buses come down West Broadway (from the Holland Tunnel probably) and make a left onto Worth heading to Chinatown which is where it ends. It is a two way street so is busier than the other streets north and south of it (Franklin, Leonard, Thomas, Duane) but it is in no way as bad as nyc10013 is making out.

This part of Worth is better than where 73 Worth is located (we discuss that here http://www.streeteasy.com/nyc/talk/discussion/7993-tribeca-looking-for-guidance-and-opinions) because it is closer (if only by a few hundred feet) to West Broadway which is a mch nicer street (and where some very good restaurants are) than Church.

Do not be scared off by the location.
As you can see from the thread I linked to, I have pretty good knowledge of tribeca and I hope you can see that I have no particular bias.

In that case, divvie, I'll stick to my argument that the area is very, very livable. Thanks for the extra info.

I lived on Worth for two years so I know what I'm talking about. Worth is chock full of tour buses, chinatown buses, garbage trucks and delivery trucks - I didn't realize BB bans commercial traffic so I'm wrong on the source of the traffic but the traffic is there. Go stand on worth for 15 mins and you'll understand what I'm talking about. I think Worth is the shittiest street in Tribeca and I would never consider living on it again (renting or buying).

You must have lived at 111 worth then or the one next door. Both are east of broadway so get all the commercial traffic and tour buses driving by after making a left from broadway. A very different proposition than 39 worth or even 73 worth.

Am I right about where you lived?

btw, nyc10013 I don't mean to keep contradicting everything that you say about tribeca (I even felt compelled to defend your pov against the curmudgeonly nyc10022 in the 110 Livingston thread but his attacks - well, you know...) but you seem to be very set in your ways when it comes to this hood.

divvie - Different 10013 - no NYC. You're entitled to your view. My view is Worth blows arse - I'd put it up there with Chambers.

I'm sure lola can decide if they think it's too noisy.

So you did live in 111 Worth.

Like I said, being east of Broadway makes a big difference and you suffered because of it.

I do agree however that Chambers is worse. No commercial traffic again but this is the downtown route from the WSH to the BB so you get constant traffic across its entire length - unlike Worth.

And vice versa of course. Chambers also being two way.

Huh? I was west of Broadway. There goes that theory. Not sure why you have a thing for Worth, it's a shitty street as anyone who lives in Tribeca can attest to. Do you live on Worth and I'm insulting your street or something?

Nope, Franklin.

Just correcting a lot of errors that you make.

Care to give an address?
There are about two residential buildings west of broadway on Worth and east of West Broadway. So you had to live in one of those right?
