Question re: broker fee

If a broker shows you an apartment, and that broker wants one month as a fee, and then you see the same apartment listed on Streeteasy with a different agent as "no fee", is it wrong to contact the agent who is listing it as "no fee" so you don't have to pay the fee? Does this often happen? I wouldn't want to step on anyone's toes, but at the same time, I obviously don't want to pay a fee if I don't have to.

yes, its wrong, but unless you signed something with first broker, he/she may be out of luck legally. You can always tell the first broker that he should get a commision from the LL not you-otherwise you wont go forward with the apartment.
