Discussion about
I just heard from a broker that he's only seen people able to close with 20% down. He noted that PMI companies are to blame. Anyone heard of this? Are banks not lending?

From what I've been hearing from inside the banks, most mortgages being approved are for a maximum of 80% financing.

supposedly 10% is still available for loan amounts up to $417,000. above that, it will be hard with the PMI companies.

"10% down is a no go"

Just wondering, how is this possibly a headline (as opposed to obvious and understood) in June 2009? It's like Rip Wan Winkle nodded off sometime in early 2007 and just woke up now and decided to look into buying a place.

Matt is unable to answer here, because he's busy giving unwanted advice on the 'terrible cellphone reception thread'

No, he takes a survivalist x-separatist tack on that one -- landline's the answer!
He advises OP to be and do just like him.

SLS - I was thinking the same thing. Talk about showing up late to the party.

When did it get so hard to buy movies on beta tapes....

w67th - It is the truth, though. Whichever new technology format is chosen by the porn industry wins.

"betas' mistake was not going after the porn mkt."

While that was one mistake, it was also that they REFUSED to license the technology to other manufacturers so if you wanted to buy a Betamax machine you HAD to buy Sony, whereas JVC pretty much let VHS be an "open" format. Most of the guts in the early days for all the OEMs were made by Hitachi.
