Discussion about
general thoughts and experiences, local amenities, high points. Areas to avoid, areas to look in....
i have many friends who live there and love it. unfortunately, from the maintenance cost and taxes perspective, i stayed in brooklyn. most of them end up driving or taking the express bus into manhattan to work. add that to the bill.
The Manhattan working folks I know who live out there and enjoy it pay extra for the LIRR. It gets them to Penn Station in 15 minutes. Subway is muuuch longer. So, yes, adds to the bill.
Its one of the nicer areas of the outer boroughs, but its pretty out there, not just in terms of distance, but in terms of people as well. Its not going to have the same energy as a browstone brooklyn or astoria. A lot of russian immigrants have move in in the last couple of decades. A lot of the restaurants are chains. Nice chains, but chains. I actually like Cabana.
The Gardens are fairly expensive and nice (attached homes go for $2 mil) out side a lot of mediocre co-op buildinds.
Personally, I'd rather be in brooklyn on a quicker subway ride than out there. Or sunnyside or something like that. A little more "action" going on.
