Check out http://www.streeteasy.com/nyc/building/181-east-93-street-manhattan You can see 4G finally closed at $530,000 after a drop to $475,000. Is this the apt I will wish I had moved on? Well, I did get laid off in Feb and still don't have a job, so I couldn't be expected to buy. Was $530/sqft on the UES, for a decent two bedroom, the best it was gonna be? I hope not. God I hope not.
The title should read "Was this the bottom?"
in a word... no
in 2 words... definitely no.
OK but can you show me something cheaper?

not even sure this was such a great deal--1000 sq ft seems way overstated--crappy floorplan makes it tuff to figure, but this bldg has tiny rooms and weird layouts
It is about 875 sq. ft. so a little over $600/sqft.
Forget the square footage, for a medium size 2 bdrm, doesnt 530K seem like a great price? I wonder if it will get better than this. No broker would call this 875sqft. That number is used for convertible 2s. It is "1000 sqft" even if the dimensions don't add up.
it seems a bit high by 2000 standards, so i'm not so sure. it seems quite high by 1997 standards.
I went to the open house. As stated above the layout was bad - Most of the sq ft was in hallways. Also the kitchen needed updating and the floors needed to be redone. So I am not so sure it was such a bargain. If it had gone for asking, it might have been.
Did it need a gut renovation?
no
sorry - "no" to the poster's original question
