They lost me at "Reality housewife's elegant home".
1. None of the ridiculous people on those shows are "real" and they are even less of "housewives". They should call the show, "Worst Rich & Selfish Parents Who Need To Show The Rest Of The World How The F*****-up Their Kids".
2. There is nothing elegant about the apartment. It's like a bad designer puked-up every gaudy idea they ever had in one place...frankly a bit scary.
Okay...enough of a rant for me.

the apartment is way overpriced with that maintenance and taxes. it needs a complete gut. that renovation even a blind person would hate.
I don't know what's funnier- the apalling decor or the $21K+/month carrying costs.

I also understand that Jill is putting her Sag Harbor house up for sale as well. Guess the fabric business just ain't what it used to be. Oh well... no more $16,000 handbags for you!

Thank you for posting this. I needed a hearty laugh today. By the way, I was recently in Zarin fabrics. What a bunch of cr@p. They only sell cheap, chinzy materials - absolutely nothing high (or even middle) end in sight. While her 'decorator' might have managed to use some to-the-trade fabrics in her apartment, it didn't do much good. Perhaps the most horrendous element is the truly abysmal selection of art.

Per her Hamptons house, she actually sold it 2 years ago and is in a "sale/leaseback" for 2 summers, this being her last (all details in a Newsday acticle). As such, she will either need to buy a new home or rent next summer if she wishes to continue her current lifestyle.
On another note, all the the "ladies" except the new one are holding out for bigger contracts and Bravo is interviewing new "ladies" as a backup/bargining chip.

hejiranyc: perhaps you typo'd the carrying charges: they are about $4300/mo. Still a lot, though. And criticize all you want, but if she sold that Sag Harbor house 2 years ago, she made a killing in all likelihood. Wise timing. Of the crazy people on the show, I like Jill. I think she'd be a fun friend and a hoot at parties.
All that said, I think it is time for some new NYC "housewives." Except Kelly. She is my all-time favorite nutso TV person. The woman is a walking demonstration of a narcissistic personality disorder. See, http://www.halcyon.com/jmashmun/npd/dsm-iv.html . Once you understand a little about personality disorders and narcissism in particular, it becomes almost impossible not to find Kelly riveting. The utter lack of self-awareness; grandiose belief in her own importance and superiority; her belief in her own "specialness" and belief her specialness can only be recognized by other special and exceptional people; the worthlessness of people who don't acknowledge her special qualities; her need to constantly be recognized and admired; her sense of entitlement, selfishness, and fascinating ways in which she turns any situation into one in which it is all about her. And who, more than Kelly, lives in her own world and reacts with venom and fury when reality dares to intrude and shine a light on the lack of connection between her perceptions and reality? I LOVE WATCHING THIS HOT MESS!!!! Thank goodness she willing to continue humiliating herself without seeking a raise, because otherwise I'd have to find someone else to appeal to my basest, most prurient entertainment needs.

What a JAP trap!
Jill is the ultimate ball breaking princess of NYC. The price, maintence, taxes, etc says she will never see that kind of $$$ for her pad. That being said, She has preformed amazing feats so let's not sell her short.
OK Jill, Make it sell! We will watch from here. you would think that the fabrics on the furniture would make a greater statement...prehaps we need to see them in person.

Setting aside the fact that I actually watch, enjoy, and have opinions about the show (which is not something I'm necessarily proud of, but I'll own it)....
NWT: I agree. I've come to like them all sort of--except Kelly who is basically sociopathic. Jill is just fun and a hoot. Ramona took time to not hate, but on the reunion show when she talked about her childhood and first marriage, some insight into how she became the woman we see really softened me on her. We all carry our own heavy crosses, Elenore Roosevelt said, and so we ought to treat each other with kindness. Ramona is an example of that I think. And I loved her most at the reunion show when she asked Kelly if Kelly even heard herself and how crazy she is. Bethany is not crazy--she had a horrible childhood and managed to find her way despite having essentially no family or support. How can you not like her. Those scenes with Bethany and Jill's mother--OMG, I think I embarrassed myself and actually cried a little. And i LOVE Bethany's interactions with Kelly when Bethany just looks at Kelly like she is listening to someone who escaped from the Elmhurst Hospital Psych ward. It isn't easy being screamed at by a crazy person, but Bethany handles Kelly beautifully. Enough. I've exposed myself as the reality TV junkie I am.

Ditto ditto ditto. Kelly the monster of affectation, and Bethany incapable of putting a face on. (Except the road job, which she's best without.)
It's not just us. Even the TV reviewer for the New Yorker is hooked.

PLEASE! If anyone sees this apartment in person, you have got to post! It isn't my taste, but there's a lot worse out there. I think it is always strange when a designer picks out someone art since art to me is quite a personal thing, but to each her own. Still, it is all too salacious not to pump for more info!
That was smart to sell that hamptons home.....its prob worth 40% less today....so that alone can get them the $$ to buy a new hamptons home....but its odd that she is selling the nyc apt...something is UP. Also, what is up with the contracts? I thought reality tv stars dont get paid? Are they paid to be on this show?

Apt_Boy: $10,000 per episode?? That's all? Seems low; there must be some other perks. That kind of money doesn't go far towards maintaining an NYC/Hamptons lifestyle, which she's probably had to ramp-up due to her new TV exposure. As far as selling her apt, seems like she is trying to capitalize her celebrity status while she still has it, since the apt is significantly more expensive than comparable units in the building.

For reality stars it's not about the pay that comes from the show, but rather the other business opportunities that present themselves as a result of the exposure.

princetonbabe - 10k X 5 is alot for a cable reality show weekly payroll, plus all of the other costs and you are running 100k per week in production costs
it is all about developing their "Brand", be it clothing, makeup, food, etc. They would do it for free, given the amount of free publicity it provides

Apt_Boy: In theory, I completely get the idea that these women would do it for free in order to monetize their "brands" with the publicity; it's just that I find it hard to see how that could translate into significant $$$$ (i.e., 6 figures +) in practice. Starting a "brand" business of any sort requires upfront capital, and loaning your name to something established can't bring in that much money, especially in this economy. And while I'm sure Zarin Fabrics has seen a ton of increased foot traffic of the "lookie-loo" kind, I doubt that has generated much increased revenue.
I'm guessing that the glossy celeb mags (People, US, etc.) pay for interviews, but you can only stay in the limelight if you create controversy--divorce, affairs, catfights, etc (see "Jon and Kate"). The only housewife who has real potential in that area seems to be the NJ one with an arrest record and a past as a "pseudo-escort" who is also a self-avowed nymphomaniac--now she knows what she's doing.
Guess I'm just a practical and cynical kinda gal--show me the money. Maybe that's why their pushing for bigger contracts.
