Discussion about 255 W 88th Street #5E
My wife and I are relocating from California and just started our apartment search. Our broker showed us this apartment yesterday, and we really loved it. It looks like a nice building, spacious apt, good area etc. Has any one seen this apartment yet or can provide some insight?

They increased the price by $1,000 since initially listing it. My guess is that they did this in order to cover the agent's fee, which they are paying.

Hey DDoll,

I have not seen this apartment, but we just signed a lease for a comparable place (similar size - 3br/3ba, different layout - DR/LR combined into one large great room, very good condition, updated, & well maintained bldg) on West 86th St. We're paying $5500/mos. and did not pay a broker fee. Now, my personal opinion is that we got a decent deal on the space; i think it could have gone for a bit more...maybe somewhere between $6k-$6.5k if the owner had had a decent broker. So, I personally think $7500 is too high given the space and location (although nice, it's not considered truly prime UWS).

That being said, if you really like the place, and the price is right for you, go for it (but, of course, try to negotiate the price down a bit).

Just my 2 cents. Good Luck.

BTW - I do know of a couple of classic 6's that aren't on SE that are asking less than this place. Feel free to email me at uwsmom.streeteasy at gmail.com. Happy to share. It's hard to find a nice, family-sized rental for a decent price.

Price just dropped to $7K btw. We can see that building from our apt and love the area. We have a similar sized apt and that price is still a little on the high side. No fee saves over $10K though. Check the Montana across the street - they probably have better prices and you can at least compare the two. Good luck.
