The slowing rate of decline in home prices is likely to continue but the housing market is "still in an abysmal situation," says Robert Shiller, a professor of economics at Yale.

I guess I missed the part where "[t]his is not my more probable scenario" means that "you renters seriously need to buy RIGHT NOW" Oh right, it's Alpo, so there isn't any rationale.

I think its only take another 6 months to break the backs of manhattan sellers let alone a couple years. When santa doesnt come this Christmas then the losses will have to be taken.

Why buy "RIGHT NOW" when this Schiller prediction is self described to be "not my most probable scenario" and specifies that the potential for this new bubble is "once the excess inventory is worked off."
So, unless Mr. President plans to scoop up every last bit of market and shadow inventory TODAY (not to mention the units that will be completed in the next few years)...I think us smart savers (previously bitter renters) have some time to wait it out(say 2-4 years if not more).

I'd like to know what the most probable scenario is, because I bet it is bleak!

Alpo, I love that!

Guy will clearly have to be eating dog food once he finally moved from Jersey to DC.

I'm not bashing anything. I merely copied the first sentence of the article posted. The purpose is to show the idiocy of alpie's comments, not to make my own on the state of real estate, dismal as that might be.

Yes, because a year ago, it only seemed probably moronic, and folks cared to respond.
Now, everyone has seen a year of stupidity from steveF, so they don't even pretend its real.

Bears are writing less because they've been proven 100% correct.

Not true. Shiller was recently quoted in Bloomberg saying that housing prices are "leveling off."

Alpine, please provide a link to the Bloomberg article from which you're misquoting out of context.

"languish" is a broad term and could just mean prices being flat for years. If Shiller meant to say that prices would DECLINE for years, he would have said so.

Shiller didn't say up now, genius.

Stay in Jersey where you can't hurt anyone.

He also did not say "down" dimwit. Where is the "all arguments between nyc10022 and someone else go here" thread? We need it right now.

Every thread seems to be an "alpo is an idiot" thread. Dude, if you don't want to be proven wrong, GO HOME.

"wow, you renters seriously need to buy RIGHT NOW or else you may very well get priced out of the market yeat again! And no, this is not coming from the NAR or Dottie Herman's latest talking points, but straight from Robert Shiller!"

Yes, because "its falling, just a bit slower, and will be down or flat for many years" means BUY RIGHT NOW.

You are a complete moron no matter what thread you post on.

For Uncle Alpie,
enjoy you summer Mr. President.
As for you information......
Burn baby burn! Burn baby burn! Burn baby burn! Burn baby burn!
Burnin'!

To mass fires, yes! One hundred stories high
People gettin' loose y’all gettin' down on the roof - Do you hear?
(the folks are flaming) Folks were screamin' - out of control
It was so entertainin' - when the boogie started to explode
I heard somebody say

Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burnin'!

Satisfaction (uhu hu hu) came in the chain reaction
(burnin') I couldn't get enough, (till I had to self-destroy) so I had to
self destruct, (uhu hu hu)
The heat was on (burnin’), rising to the top, huh!
Everybody's goin' strong (uhu hu hu)
And that is when my spark got hot
I heard somebody say

Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down, yoh!
[ The Trammps Lyrics are found on www.songlyrics.com ]
Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burnin'!

Up above my head I hear music in the air - I hear music!
That makes me know there's (somebody) a promise somewhere

Satisfaction came in a chain reaction - Do you hear?
I couldn't get enough, so I had to self destruct,
The heat was on, rising to the top
Everybody's goin' strong
That is when my spark got hot
I heard somebody say

Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno! (Aah yeah!)
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno, yeah!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burnin’!

I just can't stop
When(till) my spark gets hot
Just can't stop
When my spark gets hot

Burning, burning, burning, burning...
