Discussion about
ouch http://therealdeal.com/newyork/articles/shaq-s-star-island-sale-may-set-price-floor The recent revelation that basketball star Shaquille O’Neal finally sold his mega-manse on swanky Star Island for $16 million — a substantial discount from the $35 million he once sought — might not thrill his neighbors. They include Rosie O’Donnell, Gloria Estefan, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Lenny Kravitz and billionaire Phillip Frost, and it’s a safe bet none would welcome being added to the list of celebrity poster children for the luxury housing crunch. The sale price of $16 million is a mind-numbing drop of 54 percent from his original list price in 2005 of $35 million.

the consideration should be, what he paid for it and when. he may end up in the black and was asking such an astounding number just because his name is attached to it. considering that he couldn't sell for $35M during the boom, he was just asking way too much to begin with.

he was also doing marketing for his RE enterprises in Florida at the very peak of the bubble using ridiculous cliches like "location, location, location". lol, it's a sign of the times. love the guy though, just hate the kool-aid.

The discount from his original asking price to his selling price is meaningless. What matters the most is the $18 million figure. If I price a 1 bedroom apt. in Hell's Kitchen at $3 million and then sell it for $500,000, did I lose $2.5 million?

And $2 million loss is pennies in Shaq's price range.

The new alpo idiot response... "yes, millions were lost, but that's not a big deal".

The dude lost 15% of **2004** price. Thats huuuuuge.

And it was 20x alpo's net worth.

But he's already broke, so he can't get poorer.

i'm afraid that's peanuts when compared to his RE investments in florida. he could hardly have chosen a worse time and place. that's where the main bleeding might be.

I know your poor nyc10022 since wealthy people have better things to do with their time than to log onto forums and start fights with people. They've got better things to do, like hang out in their Hamptons house. Seriously, where do you live? I know you don't live in Manhattan.

Dude, you live in New Jersey. You can't afford where I live.

AND, I didn't lose all the money you did.

> I know your [sic] poor nyc10022

I know you're poor because not only do you live in New Jersey, you have the grammar of a 3rd grader...
