How much does it cost to move a small non-structural wall a foot or so outward? The condo I'm looking at has a small bedroom that I would like to enlarge. My agent told me it can be done for a few hundred dollars plus the cost of fixing flooring and ceilings, but that sounds pretty low to me. Thoughts?
Can cost from a few hundred to a few thousand depending on who you use, and what is in the wall. Hopefully there is nothing or just electrical which is easy to move. If there is plumbing, gas or a building riser it will cost more. Another factor is the flooring. Is the existing wall built on top of the floor? If so, you will usually need to refinish it. If the floor meets the wall, then you'll need to spend more to fix it.
Find a contractor/handyman who will look at it and give you a quote.
you might also want to ask the building super or someone on the board if other unit owners have recently done similar work...
