Discussion about
I learned so much from this website but since people need to sign in..it appears to have lost people who were bringing a lot to the table.

yes it sucks. The board started out great, then progressively drew more and more useless/hateful/insulting comments. Finally pushed streeteasy into requiring login, and here we are. I have nothing interesting to say about it, just agreeing with you.

I've learned a lot here & I love it but it has become quite moribund the last few days. However I must disagree; I thought the hateful, stupid, moronic, infantile comments were just that - and annoying, too.

#3 Here i absolutely agree with you but i guess what i am saying is that the freedom that the site had before the loggin requirement is gone

#4 here. I hesitated about signing on, too, & actually backed out of the page when it looked like they wanted $10 a month, only to find out that I HAD signed myself up. I hate to say that 'cause now all the idiots may sign up too but the info & conversation & verve has gone. Perhaps the morons will practice some restraint if they know that their friends at streeteasy know who they are. I'm sorry it's come to this but the jerks made it so, I think.

I'm not sure what "freedom" was lost... All you have to do is login. Wowza. I was actually quite happy that they still have anonymous. It's clear that a few of the morons have signed up, but I'm not missing any of the stupidity which had become so common...

Not only did they pull some of the heated debates, some of which were interesting and simply underscored some of the tensions lying underneath some situation such as between buyers and brokers.... (still informative even if sometimes overly nasty), they also pulled some of the more amusing even if frivolous posts (maybe serious topics too some).... like the post about telescopes, and the one about the ratio of honest wealth to ill gotten gains. There was nothing too nasty in those.

There was a lot of stupidity & mean spiritedness & needless insults which was ridiculous & offensive; the type of thing I'd walk away from at a party. There was also some gratuitous vulgarity which was just unnecessary, very infantile stuff. Streeteasy said that they were spending too much time monitoring & cleaning up & that this login was coming. I'm not sure that anyone foresaw this killing the board, however. Well, all things will pass. Instead of monitoring this board a few times a day, once a week may be enough. Too bad........

the login takes 2 seconds -- If you have something intelligent to say, it is no big deal, if you don't it seems to be just enoughof a "pause inducer" to keep the idiots from acting . . . stay the course streeteasy!

There doormen aren't there to lift their fingers onto the keyboard, logins are too difficult.

#13 -- If you are going to be a smart-ass, please figure out the difference between their, they're and there.

In this case you mean: their.

I like the login requirement. It has perhaps stifled some of the interesting discourse but the amount of flamming responses have gone down even more. Glad they did it.

Agreed. There are far, far fewer completely useless comments. A lot of the flat out insulting/mean posters seem to have gone away.

It seems that things are picking up a little, no? I certainly don't miss the morons, like a 10 year old with a keyboard.
