Discussion about
Is it common for brokers to exaggerate square footage on rentals? This may sound silly but I was originally looking to buy and it seemed like the square foot numbers were fairly accurate with apartments for sale. The places we have seen for rental seem to have really exaggerated square footage numbers so far.
Actually, it is a constant source of threads on here and a complaint about the RE industry in NYC that sq/ft estimates for sales are more often than not exaggerated--frequently to an absurd degree. Rentals are no different, but since you aren't purchasiing and concerned about price per sq/ft, there may be slightly less incentive for brokers to exaggerate in a rental. but I am not sure.
