did you get to the last paragraph before you posted?

"While housing normally leads the economy out of a recession, a glut of unsold homes and a record wave of mortgage foreclosures dumping more properties on the market is expected to temper demand. Despite the rise in housing construction for June, activity still was 46 percent below the year-ago level."

ericho -- do you entertain even a micron of critical thought before you post? How about considering how that 582,000 units fits into historical averages:

they're still only at a THIRD of "normal" you buffoon

I think I've asked this before, but why does anyone humor ericho by even responding? If you just ignore him his financial news clipping service will migrate down and off the recent threads list.

""WASHINGTON – Construction of new U.S. homes rose in June to the highest level in seven months, a sign builders are starting to regain confidence as they emerge from the housing bust.""

I LOVE IT!

The construction numbers went down and bulls posted the links saying "this is great for housing". Now the numbers are going up and "this is great for housing".

Well, I guess they are at least 100% in their foolish consistency!

Yes, its hilarous pointing out how stupid you've been historically!

Yes, I get it... you lost all your money, and the folks who were smarter than you are "weak".

Man, you really live in fantasy land. Enjoy your mom's basement!

considering the glut of homes on the market and the continuing rise in foreclosures wouldn't it be more bullish and practical not to build ANY new homes for a few months? increasing supply will lower prices even more.
