Discussion about
Hey guys, I was looking for threads on fractional ownership such as Starwood (St. Regis New York) but couldn't find anything.. Any thoughts on such a purchase? I would plan on using my time and wondering what kind of resale market is for such a product if I chose to sell 4-5 years down the road.

we have fractional ownerships at the manhattan club and it was probably the worst investment we have ever made. don't know how this compares to Starwood but i would be leery at and least make the comparison. at this time there does not appear to be any resale market for our shares which include xmas weeks.

Do you know why they are using the term "fractional ownership"?

Because "Time Share" sounds like something you get roped into while drunk in Vegas?

Seattleguy, I agree with Rosina. Time-shares are risky in the best of times, but in a shaky economy they're a very unwise choice. Why lock yourself in when you can just book a room at the St. Regis for your vacation with no strings attached?

Rosina and Squid, thanks for your thoughts. I was thinking the same but just wanted other opinions. I'm glad I found this website, great information.

I've always understood that you couldn't give away 'time shares' at resale.

Time Share is a subset of Fractional Ownership, but in reality they are using fractional ownership because if they used the term "time share", no one would buy.
