Discussion about 175 Willoughby Street in Downtown Brooklyn
Hi, yes, I live in the complex in a 3bd. Very similar to concord village; no, they are not glamorous places and are not new condos. BUT, they have healthy amount of space per unit, are reasonable and have great access to subways and to some of the cultural pieces of fort greene and other brooklyn neighborhoods.
2 years later,I'd love to hear some more about these buildings. I've always overlooked them but there is so little in the nearby neighborhoods where one can get a decent sized 1br for under $400,000. Are there younger people moving here to be near Ft. Greene? Any safety concerns?
For a coop to coop comparison, consider Coop Village in LES if you're looking at University Towers. You can score a 1BR in Seward for $400k. It's cheaper at Hillman or East River, but a further trek from the train. It still beats having to take the train everywhere.

Have you looked at the Clinton Hill coops. Last time I looked they had
800 ft 1-2s asking at to under $400,000 and they are just north of the
northen borded or Fort Greene, which is Vanderbilt Avenue
I live in the Robert Livingston building at 85 Livingston Street. Better, well developed neighborhood and fantastic subway access (2,3,4,5 around the corner and A,C,F 2 blocks away. The 1 beds are spacious and can be had for mid $300's.
Rb: I've looked at the clinton hill coops online and walked past them but havent seen a unit in person yet, may be time to check them.
Saiyar: I actually live in BK Heights and am quite familiar with 85 Livingston. I think there's value in the size but I'm wary of the high maintenance. I've seen a few units but have a hars time looking past the dated interior. Certainly a good location and nice building amenities, just not sure it's right for us.

Got ya. I guess a lot of the inventory that came for sale this past year has been renovated units.... Mine had the bath and kitchen redone nicelu and a few others are still out there. I use a deceNt amount of AC/heat and electricity, so maintenance not as high as for some (everything but cable tv included)
The sponsor apartments at University Towers are great. They are completely renovated and there is no board approval. You can get a nice sized one-bedroom for about $350,000. It is the best deal around and the renovations are beautiful. The website to see some of these apartments is:

The renovations are quite nice, but this is one of the few DoBro residential buildings that isn't new, and it shows. I visited one of the units earlier this year, http://bit.ly/szmAof, I liked it but I don't know if I would've bought it.
