Too good to be true? http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/abo/1310452413.html Supposed to meet a guy tonight to view the place. Asked for the exact address and he shuffled some papers and said to just meet him on the corner. Too sketch?
From the pictures, it look very ugly and cheap HomeDepotish. I think it is too good to be true and especially the supposed 35% recession special reduction. I think the broker will do a bait & switch and most likely get you to sign an exclusive clause with him before he shows it to you.
Alarm bells are ringing....
FWIW, we saw several legit (if far from perfect) apartments under similar ("meet me on the corner") scenarios.
if it's specious keep moving.
Dude, "meet me at the corner" means it's a broker and it's NOT his listing, and he wants to be your broker. It's either a no-fee and he wants a fee, or it's someone else's listing and he wants a cut, or (very frequently) it's completely imaginary and just a bait-and-switch.
Also, you know he's a liar, since he's posting under "apartments by owner" and is obviously not the owner. Not a great start.
If you meet him and see, let us know what you find... maybe I am wrong.
he's posting "apartment by owner" is because he does not want to pay Craigslist fee.
Apartment must be taken with Alligator currently living in 4th bedroom.
For the record....
Allegators=5
Renters=0
no fee , but he will take the one month free as a fee? If it is a great deal -- look at it -- you can choose to walk away. If you can find it on your own -- do so and don't meet him...
Southern, how'd it go?
It looks very cheap - wall unit AC, filthy floors. I will be waiting for Southern's follow up post.
Did you get mugged when you met him on the corner, Southern? Did he try to sell you a watch? Oy!
do you think we'll see southern on the front page of The NY Post tomorrow?
Sorry, disappeared on y'all. I had a few more email exchanges with the broker. Through all the spelling mistakes and language issues and the fact I was skeptical to begin with, I just couldn't go through with meeting him.
Thanks for the help guys!
Examples:
1.) "Hi [redacted]
Do you still interesting to see the apartment"
2.) "See you soon to shaw you apt. I want to shaw it to your friend to."
I bailed.
He was probably heir to a large fortune in Nigeria, and if you had met him he would've cut you in for helping with the money transfer. Too bad -- you snooze, you lose.
Haha. The comment I made to the friend going with me was "This egregious usage of the English language is far too Nigerian Prince-esque for us to actually go."
