Discussion about
Hi all, Not to knock SE, but I was hoping that I could get some other useful NYC RE sites. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, kcw984
Trulia might work for the rest of America, but not for NY. It's talk feature is a joke, just brokers fishing for clients. Curbed is sleek, fun and shallow and it mainly features Stribling listings. Therealdeal is a good source of info, no talk. UD is a great RE analysis site from a macroeconomics perspective. I don't know of any other.
J. Miller, the appraiser, has a blog, http://matrix.millersamuel.com/ which features webcasts with RE experts and posts very interesting info.
I don't know if you want listings or advice ... my site frontporchllc.com has a lot of posts pretty good advice, but the search feature got knocked out on the last redesign, and most of my focus is now at CBS Moneywatch: bit.ly/12afCB .
I came from the NY Post, and I still recommend that local buyers and sellers read that every week (real estate runs on Thursdays) and the Daily News every week (RE runs on Friday) and you can pick them up on the web. For general commentary, Jon Miller's stuff at millersamuel.com is great.
For listings, I don't think there's anything accessible to the public that's as good as what brokers use, but in this fragmented world I'd look here on SE and at nytimes.com, that will cover a lot of it.

There's a site, NYbits.com, that large managing agents use to advertise no-fee rentals in their buildings. Lousy for Bkln unfortunately. And there's Propertyshark.com. If anyone knows a good place to find rentals in Bklyn, please share.
Yes! Propertyshark rocks. Once you located a place you like, it is THE site to investigate it. You get a ton of info on the property. You don't have a talk feature. For this, SE is the only one.
i haven't been on in ages, but wired new york used to have great commentary on new/converted buildings, construction quality, architecture, etc. also some threads populated by VERY disgruntled buyers in buildings. it's worth a look just to do a search for any building you are considering, particularly if you're interested in a new development.
Don't overlook google. If you are somewhat search savy, google can lead you to great info.
Sometimes just having a partial address in the search will lead you to good websites.
I like front_porch's site and just finished her book and really enjoyed it as I am in the process of buying my first place.
and don't forget urbandigs.com
If you search for Rufus on SE you can learn all that you want to know about Chicago.
kcw984:

Urbandigs.com
therealdeal.com
brownstoner.com
calculatedriskblog.com
go to urbandigs look on lower right hand side...he has a great list of interesting sites and blogs.
thanks Jeremy! It's good to know someone is reading, since I'm supposed to be working on book two.
